Therapeutic Massage or Medical Massage
This is a combination of techniques used to relieve pain from injuries and conditions of tightness in muscles or muscle groups in the body. What techniques are used depends on the exact nature of the injury and the muscles, or muscle groups affected in the body. It can relieve back pain caused by Discopathy or injury. It can also help relieve discomfort from bad posture, rheumatism, arthritis or just the effects of increasing years. It would also be used after fractures, where the bone has mended but not the surrounding tissues and muscles.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue does not necessarily constitute a hard massage–it simply means that deeper layers of muscle are contacted and treated, usually, with cross fibre friction to break up adhesions and restore fluid flow through the muscle. Deep Tissue Massage is used to release chronic patterns of muscular tension using slow strokes, direct pressure, or friction usually on a focused problem area.
Relaxation Massage
Relaxation Massage is used to relieve stress, and relax and quiet the body. It involves gentle, slow, long movements and is often performed in conjunction with aromatic oils and soothing music. It removes tension from the body and aids better sleep. It reduces the tension caused by cares and worries and it often happens that the client falls asleep during the treatment. It engenders a feeling of safety, comfort and quiet well-being that lasts long after the session has ended.
Hot Stone Massage
Periosteal Massage
Periosteal Massage is specifically focused to, and used after injuries to bones. It is the deepest type of tissue massage as it deals specifically with the tissues directly in contact with the bones of the body and would be used after fractures, where the bone has healed but not the surrounding tissue. It is often used as one of the techniques in Therapeutic or Medical Massage.
Sports Massage
This is a big area in the practice of Massage and is growing. It involves massage to prepare athletes for an event, sometimes during an event and also afterwards. Hard massage techniques are typically employed before an event to prepare the body for the exertions to come and soft ones afterwards, to enable the body to recover quickly. The exact preparatory massage depends on the nature of the event, and it’s duration.

Spot Massage
Ice Massage
Ice Massage, or Cryotherapy greatly increases the flow of blood in the vessels and capillaries. It is a special type of massage done with a block of solid ice. It is helpful in accelerating healing to injuries and increasing muscle tone. The treatment starts very gently and then increases in force, but cannot be used for too long on any one area as the client will experience discomfort from the cold.
Shantai Massage
Shantal massage is performed on children with any type of psychomotor defects. It has aspects similar in ways to relaxation massage, but different in that it is specifically catered to children’s bodies, and so is very careful and firm, but even more gentle. It is a whole-body massage which stimulates the nerve endings and the child benefits greatly from a safe and benign massage technique.
